2009-05-29 Sligo

Two years ago I was in Sligo for a few hours (during a guided tour through Ireland). As soon as the concert was announced on the official site I decided to
go. An acoustic concert in a church and was a very good reason to be back in Sligo.

I stayed there for five days. The weather was perfect (but not really Irish I guess). The day before the concert I had an opportunity to see the interior of
the church. I'll post some photo's. Several people in Sligo told me about the acoustic in St. John's and they were right. The concert itself was marvellous.

The guys started with `In the gloaming'. I really love that song. They sang it standing back as far as possible. To me that suggested the gloaming.

The other songs:

Star of the County Down
The
town I loved so well
Fionghuala
rover
Dein ist mein ganzes Herz (dedicated to Anja and Beate)
The holy city
How great Thou art
Hard times
Four
strong winds
Sheandoah
Remember me
Granada
Bring him home
A
love so beautiful
You ain't going nowhere
Come what may
The mad lady and me
Ave Maria
I'll tell me ma
Caledonia
Time to say goodbye
Encore: Nessun dorma

I have to admit that I copied the set list. Mostly I cannot reproduce the whole list by heart.

The whole concert was tremendous. To hear some of my favourites like `Bring him home', `The holy city' and `Come what may' in this church was really exquisite.

Matthew did the thanks for sounds. `Thanks to God and the architect of this church (Richard Cassels)'.

Next Sunday I went to St. John's for the mass. Some people recognized me from the concert and came to welcome me. Afterwards I spoke with several people. The community made me feel at home.
