2007-02-13 Tenors get help from some eighters at Sligo concert

Parents and relatives of 50 pupils from Carbury National School in Sligo will remember the night they saw their children perform with top classical trio the Celtic Tenors for many years to come.

The 50 pupils, aged eight years old, took to the stage with the top classical trio, which includes Sligo Weekender columnist James Nelson, when the Celtic Tenors performed at the Sligo Park Hotel late last month.

The pupils were treated to weekly vocal coaching, courtesy of the Celtic Tenors for a number of months leading up to the concert. They were taught three songs, which they performed with the trio on the night. It was a real treat for the parents and the children when the pupils finally took to the stage to perform the songs, one of which was the Irish rugby team's anthem Ireland's Call.

One of the pupils on stage was James's nephew Andrew, who no doubt has gained an interest in classical music from his uncle. The Celtic Tenors are currently on a worldwide tour.
